Can I install Prop A Deck myself?
No. Prop A Deck has strict quality control requirements to ensure best practices are deployed throughout the installation process. Meeting our high standards is the sole responsibility of our installation professionals.

Do I have to stain or treat Vitex hardwood?

No, Staining or treating is not required as Vitex is a durable hardwood with hardwearing characteristics that provide years of trouble free service provided it is properly maintained.

Can I stain the Vitex timber if required?
Yes. Provided a pre-approved coating system is used. Please contact us for suitable products and procedures.


We strongly advise to remove panels and apply as stains/oils have the propensity to damage membrane systems.

Can Prop A Deck be installed on surfaces other than waterproof membrane systems?
Yes. Provided the substrate/structure is strong enough to accommodate the Prop A Deck system. It can be installed on some tile surfaces and concrete patio areas. In these instances a rubber sole is fixed to the underside of the foot surface.


We recommend that you consult with your builder, architect or engineer to clarify suitability.

Can Prop A Deck be used as a solution for internal suspended floors to accommodate under floor services etc?
Yes. Sovereign Enterprises has an alternative system which incorporates plywood substrate panels. Please contact our contactcentre@propadeck.co.nz with your requirements.

Will Prop A Deck components stand up to the harsh conditions on coastal property?
Yes. All fastenings and steel components are manufactured from stainless steel material which is rust resistant.

Can I remove panels myself to maintain and service membranes?
Yes. Panels are able to be removed to enable access for service and maintenance of membrane/substrate surfaces as well as to retrieve items.

It is strongly recommended panels be removed on a regular basis to:
1. Routinely inspect the membrane and substrate for possible deterioration and damage
2. Remove/clear potential build up of material to prevent blockage/obstruction of water dissipation/flow.

Special care is to be taken when removing panels for service and maintenance purposes by ensuring panels are uplifted in a horizontal orientation to prevent damage to panel system/feet and/or membrane surface. Ensure all panels are numbered during removal process to enable correct reinstatement.

How do the panels remain in position?

The weight of the panels combined with the sole of the adjustable foot prevent movement from general foot traffic.

Will the Prop A Deck panels bow or deflect?
No. Panels accommodate a strongback system to neutralize the effect of surface tension deflection.

Can heavy items such as spar pools be located on Prop A Deck panels?
No. The Prop A Deck system is designed to accommodate general foot traffic only and most outdoor furniture items. The system is not designed as a structural platform to accommodate excessive weights of items such as spar pools, large planters, brick/block ovens/BBQ’s and machinery. Sovereign Enterprises shall not be liable for any damage to the Prop A Deck system or components caused by inappropriate use of the system.

What is the minimum working height?
Minimum working height is 70mm from sole of foot to top surface of deck. A 45mm minimum working height is achieved by substituting the adjustable foot with our rubber isolation pads.

What is the maximum working height?
Maximum working height is 270mm comfortably using the standard set up. Heights in excess of 270mm can be achieved using additional rail structure options.

How much does Prop A Deck cost?
Less than the cost of a conventional floating deck installed and uplifted/reinstated for the first time.


The cost of the Prop A Deck system varies depending on substrate falls, gutter configurations, finished heights, site access and layup requirements.

Why do I need to remove floating decks?
Waterproof membrane systems need to be maintained and serviced inline with manufactures requirements to preserve membrane integrity and validate warrantees. Some manufactures also stipulate membranes be inspected periodically by their technical representatives to validate warrantees.

 

Having the ability to access waterproof membrane systems is a requirement of the E2/AS1 7.3.1.1 NZ building regulation.

What decking profiles does Prop A Deck come in?
Our standard decking slat profile is 90mm by 20m. Wider slats tend to be less stable and more susceptible to checking.

What other decking material is Prop A Deck available in?
Additional hardwood options are available depending on availability and suitability. Vitex is our mainstay hardwood.

Sovereign Enterprises Limited will not be liable for any damage caused by underlying defects in the membrane or substrate system. We recommend that you consult with your membrane supplier, builder, architect or engineer to clarify suitability. Service life of timber (and other componentry) in the Prop A Deck system will depend greatly on climatic conditions, side of home decking located on, and appropriate use and maintenance of Prop A Deck system."
